Blackletter, often called gothic lettering, is one of the most popular forms of calligraphy. It is a staple of the beginning calligrapher’s toolbox. With many variations, blackletter can go from historical to contemporary in the blink of an eye. Â Learn more about this elegant and beautiful style.
This will be a review (or introduction) to a few fundamental concepts and techniques for Blackletter and Old English lettering. A variety of handouts will be provided, along with guidesheets and cardstock.  He’ll have a few broad edge markers and pens to try out.
- Bring your favorite broad edge pen and nibs (Cartridge pens and parallel pens are great. 3mm or larger seem to work best.)
- Ruler or straight edge
- Preferred ink or gouache
- Pencil and eraser
